I’m a runner. When I hit the road, the world is mine – I think, I dream, I plan.
The halfway point of my run this morning was on a bush track by a beautiful, quiet bay with a dozen anchored sailing boats waiting for the next big blow that would take them out to sea. I chose to stop for a minute and take it all in. With the sun shining on my face, my mind was as calm and clear as the water. I thought of the day ahead and asked myself what I wished from it. “To be inspired.” With this thought, I turned around and ran back home.
Running helps me find inner peace and often purpose to my life.
I came across this inspirational TED Talk from Beirut marathon founder May El-Khalil who’s taken these benefits of running to a whole different level… She explains how, after being victim of a serious accident, she came up with the idea of founding Lebanon’s first marathon as a vehicle for peace and purpose. She believes a 42.2km running event can bring together a country divided for decades by politics and religion, even if for one day a year. Watch her speech… it’s well worth the 10 minutes.
Now tell me, what do you do to bring inner peace and purpose to your life?
